Here is
where all Elysium Gates contests
are listed. It seems a natural outgrowth from the Ancient
Greek theme
of Elysium Gates to use the term “Olympiad”
– which refers to the ancient
summer festival of games, or Olympics, which began in 776 BC and
repeated
every four years.
Ancient
winners were considered heroes
in their own right and were honored for life. The prize won
in those days
was a circlet of olive sprigs cut from Kallistephanos, the sacred tree
of Hercules, with a golden scythe. This was deemed a crown of
noble
and heroic deeds.
We
can’t promise you the world-wide fame
one would get in an actual Olympiad festival, but certainly the feel of
amiable competition will be here – and you certainly
won’t have to wait
every four years for a chance to vie for a title. The olive crown will
also be replaced with something a bit more contemporary (although you
might
receive an olive wreath graphic), but the spirit is the same.
So..., come
join us. Take part in the events
and contests. Show your skills and aptitude. We
won’t ask you to hurl a
discus or run the hundred, but you’ll get a workout just the
same – and
hopefully have a good time in the process.
If you have
an idea for a contest or know
of one sponsored by an area or member that we don't have listed, please contact Prometheus.
