Bibliotheke members
have chosen to support
the efforts of book drives for libraries.
Do you have a library
in your area? Get
involved. Donate your used books! Help educate everyone by keeping our
public libraries full of books, while keeping the costs down.
Here are some
tips on how to organize a
successful book drive in your area:
-
Get the word out!
Newspapers, radio and TV
will give free space and air time for community announcements. Remember
they often need two weeks advance notice before printing or media so
that
it can be fit in their schedules. Be sure to check with the media in
your
area well in advance for how to apply for such services.
-
Utilize the Girl
Scouts and Boy Scouts to
sort and organize the books donated as a service project.
-
Have the bookdrive
last at least one week.
-
Have flyers passed
out in the schools.
-
Talk to the
library; find out what kind of
books they most need (reference, novels, computer, etc). What don't
they
want? Be sure that information is well distributed on all the
advertising.
If you have any more
tips on how to organize
a successful bookdrive, please send them and we'll add them to our list.
Do you have a
photo of you participating
in your community for a book drive? Email it in and we will feature it
and link it back to your web site!
