Agora members have chosen to support Children's
Aid. There are Children Aid Societies around the world that work
to improve the lives of children. Many offer foster care, adoption,
health care and education. All are committed to protecting children
from harm and preventing child abuse and neglect. But these beneficial
organizations are dependant on you for their existence. Get involved.
Here are some tips on how to support Children
Aid:
-
Get the word out aout your local Children's
Aid organization! Newspapers, radio and TV will give free space and
air time for community announcements. Remember they often need two
weeks advance notice before printing or media so that it can be fit in
their schedules. Be sure to check with the media in your area well
in advance for how to apply for such services.
-
Organize a fundraiser, walk a thons are something
the whole community can get involved in and usually draw a lot of media
coverage.
-
Many of the Children's Aid organizations would
love your volunteer help in many different ways. See if anything
on this list appeals to you, then call your local agency and offer to help:
-
Volunteer to drive
-
Organize a toy drive
-
Chaperone monitiored parental visits
-
Clerical help
-
Adopt a child
-
Tutor a child
-
Become a foster parent
-
Be a special friend to a child

The current featured Agora photo comes
from Elysium Gate's member site Girl
Scout Troop 1058. In this photo, one girl is adopted, one girl
is a foster child and one girl has a "special friend." All three
girls can involve themselves in "normal" activities, and grow up in helpful
and nurturing atomospheres due to Children's Aid organizations.
