The residents of Stoa have voted on supporting Community Food Banks to be our special community project.

As responsible global citizens we all have become more aware and concerned about the issue of hunger and how seriously it impacts society. We can no longer assume that government will take responsibility for providing the solutions and the programs that will resolve the hunger problem our country is confronted with.

Any attempt we make to contribute will have a favourable influence on the future of families and their children.
The first Food Bank opened in Canada in 1981, with a total of 615 food banks and 2,213 agencies helping hungry people across Canada today.
Most food banks provide a 3 - 4 day supply of groceries and restrict requests for assistance to once a month.
Despite reports of economic prosperity, food bank use continues to climb a minimum of 1.5 % per year. Over 40% of those being helped by Food Banks are under 18 years of age. The need continues to grow, with the working poor, people on disability income, other forms of social assistance or no income at all have to rely on food banks to provide their families with even the most basic necessity of food.

Thank you!
