The problem:
I can not log into WS FTP and I can't
FTP with the browser.
Answer:
Let's focus first on the WS FTP.
Make sure you have PASSIVE TRANSFER MODE checked
Open WS FTP - Click on OPTIONS - Click on SESSION
Put a check n USE PASSIVE TRANSFER MODE
Next, Using IE to FTP -
but it times out.
This generally is due to the fact that you might have a zillion files in the
root directory. Most people prevent this from happening by putting all image
files in a different directory, most often called images.
When you FTP with IE your browser has to retrieve each and every file. This
takes a long time if you have a lot of files for it to load. Your browser may
even time out.
You can try emptying your temporary internet files and try FTP again.
How do I empty my temporary internet
files in IE?
I recommend to all my clients that you dump these on a weekly if not daily
basis
1.) Open IE
2.) Go to TOOLS>> INTERNET OPTIONS
3.) In the GENERAL window that opens up locate the area that says:
Temporary Internet Files
Click the button that says: DELETE FILES
Another window will open
Click OK
4.) Repeat # 3 and when the window opens this time put a CHECK in the
DELETE all offline content
Click OK
This could take a while if you have NEVER done this.
Be patient.
If you do this on a regular basis, it will not take so long to log into some
websites as well as those HUGE FTP areas. Yes.. I said it will speed things up!
